Local mental health charity Dorset Mind will be returning to The Dolphin to offer a series of free workshops to enable the community to find support for their mental health.
This year, workshops will be available for the following topics: managing anxiety, depression, and low mood, looking after your mental health as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, and dealing with grief and loss. Each of the sessions will provide valuable insights and resources to support your mental health and wellbeing journey.
Dorset Mind volunteers will also be available until 3.30pm each day to chat to members of the public.
Dorset Mind will be joined by Citizens Advice on Wednesday 14th May, to provide two sessions on Energy and Money Saving Advice including local support information by their Energy Expert, Dorset Energy Unit.
On Thursday 15th May, Dorset Mind will run a Volunteer Information Day. Attendees can learn more about getting involved with Dorset Mind’s projects with adults and young people, as well as supporting with marketing, admin, and other office-based roles.
Nick Rowe from Dorset Mind said, “Mental Health Awareness Week is a key date in our diary, giving us the perfect platform to engage with people with the support of our partners at The Dolphin Poole.
“The world is an uncertain place, but we are determined to make a difference in people’s lives. We also are delighted to have support from our friends at Citizens Advice, because financial worries are often a major reason for poor mental health. Our staff and volunteers look forward to meeting you.”
John Grinnell, Centre Manager of The Dolphin said, “We’re pleased to continue our close partnership with Dorset Mind, and empower our community to further their mental wellbeing.
“The Dolphin is committed to supporting the mental health of the local community, and we encourage anyone who needs urgent support to make use of our Access Wellbeing hub. Access Wellbeing offers year-round mental health support and can be found on the first floor of the centre.”
Carmen Davies, Community Manager at The Dolphin said, “We are proud to once again host Dorset Mind for Mental Health Awareness Week. These workshops are a vital opportunity for our community to access free, expert-led support on topics that impact so many of us. At The Dolphin, we believe in creating an environment where people not only shop and socialise, but also find connection, resources, and wellbeing. We warmly welcome everyone to attend, learn, and feel supported.”
This year’s workshops will take place at 25 Kingland Crescent, Poole, BH15 1TA, which can be found between Loope Vintage Apparel (23 Kingland Crescent) and TONI&GUY Poole (27 Kingland Crescent).
NOTE:
Please note, that these activities do not provide counselling services, but will instead signpost to organisations that can offer support for mental health challenges.
Dorset Mind is a local charity that has been providing mental health support for over 75 years. They educate, challenge mental health stigma and inequality, and support recovery through empowering individuals to develop and maintain their wellbeing.
Their 1-2-1 and group support includes active monitoring (CBT-type coaching), befriending, counselling, mentoring, a wide range of support groups, and alternative social prescriptions. These services prevent mental health worsening and help people regain social skills and develop confidence.
The charity also delivers educational wellbeing programmes for schools and workplaces and provides volunteer opportunities across all areas of the organisation. For more details, visit dorsetmind.uk.
