Even if there isn’t anything seriously wrong with your teeth, regularly visiting the dentist forms part of a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining great oral hygiene is just as vital as maintaining a healthy body and reducing the risk of mental health problems.

 

Studies have linked mouth health with overall well-being, so staying on top of your dental appointments should be at the top of your priory list.

 

Many dental conditions are subtle and asymptomatic. They can slowly worsen over time without you noticing that anything is wrong. Paying your dentist a visit will ensure that you can get treatment for any underlying issues as soon as they arise.

 

Here are some of the top reasons why you should visit the dentist at least once a year.

 

For a General Check-Up

We all know that we are supposed to see the dentist every 6 to 12 months for a general check-up. Even if your teeth look and feel healthy, there’s always the risk of underlying issues being present.

 

During your general check-up, your dentist will be able to inspect all of your teeth and determine if there are any areas of concern. At this appointment, your dentist may also perform a quick clean and polish if they spot any built-up plaque around your teeth.

These signs don’t always appear in every person with gum disease, so even if you don’t have any symptoms of gum disease, it’s important to visit your dentist regardless.

 

Until you visit the dentist, continue to brush twice a day, floss, and use mouthwash. Maintaining a great oral hygiene practice will reduce the risk of your gum disease getting worse until you can get professional help.
