Post-holiday Blues? Here’s how to reenergise, refocus and rediscover your motivation this January
Feeling tired, unmotivated, and unproductive at work following the Christmas break? You may have the post-holiday blues…
The Christmas holidays are officially over. That general feeling of sadness, fatigue and lack of motivation is no coincidence; the post-holiday blues are officially upon us. And they’re real.
According to experts, the post-holiday blues are a combination of crashing after a period of intense emotion and stress, recovering from over-indulgence, experiencing sadness that comes when the celebrations are over and adjusting to the dreaded return to work. As a result, we feel tired, unmotivated, and unproductive. But by rediscovering our focus and motivation, and giving our brain a boost, we can help us drag ourselves through the bleakness of January and step back into high gear at work.
Founder and host of the UK’s number 1 peak performance podcast Take FLIGHT, Mark Whittle Comments:
“Productivity doesn’t happen by accident. Accomplishing all the things you need and want to do requires continuous energy and focus. On the days when we are tired, frustrated and struggling for motivation, there are steps we can take to refocus, reenergise and perform at our best.”
1. Visualise Your Goals
In life and work, success begins with a goal. Big or small, goals give us purpose and, like a compass, keep us headed in the right direction. Studies show that visualisation – or the practice of seeing a goal as already complete – helps to manifest success by improving motivation, concentration, and performance.[i] Remember, if you can see it – then you can achieve it.
2. Get Organised
In case you don’t have your to-do list prepared, it is time to start making one. By writing down and prioritising all the tasks that you need to complete, it will become easier to tackle your work. You can break down large projects into actionable tasks to make it more manageable. Ticking off tasks after completing them, whether big or small, will give you a sense of accomplishment and boost productivity.
3. Fuel your body
Did you know that eating the right foods can increase brainpower, motivation, and overall productivity by up to 20 percent? [ii] If you’re serious about beating the blues and achieving success, try adding more of the productivity-boosting foods into your daily diet such as eggs, nuts, berries, and avocados. These foods could be just the lift your body is looking for when it is struggling to stay energised, focused, and motivated.
4. Rest & Rejuvenate
Getting enough good quality sleep is crucial to reaching your peak performance and achieving your goals. Not only does it help to increase your focus and productivity, but it also helps with your memory, and learning motivation. Whilst everyone’s sleep needs are different, experts generally agree that adults need 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
5. Try an energy supplement with clinically proven ingredients
Ongoing stress can make us feel sluggish and negatively impact our performance and motivation. Pro Plus® Ultra is the UK’s first cognitive energy enhancer to contain a unique blend of vitamins and botanicals, that are clinically proven to increase focus and stave off both mental and physical fatigue, aiding productivity. Commenting on the benefits of unique energy supplements, Mark Whittle:
“Whatever work you do, there are times when the pressure’s on and you can’t afford to slow down. That’s when a supplement can help you to find your focus and feel energised all day. For example, B Vitamins have been shown to boost energy, whilst adaptogens, such as ashwagandha, are known to clear your mind and improve your concentration.
You can power up with these essential ingredients, in just one convenient tablet thanks to new Pro Plus Ultra – the UK’s first energy supplement to contain a unique blend of performance enhancing ingredients such as, Vitamins B6 & B12, ashwagandha and slow-release caffeine.
