Owning a pet
This is the third post in my Fun Activity Rating series (FAR). Owning a pet is one of the few fun activity ratings that gets a 10/10. Of course, I may be slightly biased as I love animals. I grew up surrounded my animals. My mother was always saving stray dogs and abused animals. She even stopped on the central island of a busy highway once to rescue a dog. We lived with four dogs, two cats and a cockatiel called Gregory (after Gregory Peck!). My mum would use up her savings to get stray dogs neutered. She definitely loved animals more than she loved people.
I share my home with my 16 year old son and my lovely Yorkshire terrier called Socks. When we got him from the breeder, the breeder gave us a sock to take with to give him something familiar in his new surroundings. Hence the name Socks. He is the cutest, most loving little dog and he keeps me sane. I am sure that I would be committed if someone could see how I behave when I am alone with Socks. I sing and make silly noises and he always returns a nonchalant, slightly disconcerted look which makes me laugh even more.
Always happy to see me, always ready to please. He has the most gentle nature and gives me so much joy. Despite having developed a recent allergy (it’s either due to Socks or to Belle – a cockatiel I have been looking after on a temporary basis..it’s been a year now I think), I would rather manage the allergy than not have Socks around. It’s cruel joke to end up allergic to my pet though…
If you need fun and love in your life and have the time and commitment for a pet, I highly recommend it!!!
