Laser Hair Removal: How Safe Is It and Are There Any Side Effects?

Unwanted hair can be embarrassing and annoying, especially when it is visible to others. Those who are concerned about unwanted hair should know about their options for removal. Of course, there is always shaving and plucking, but each has drawbacks that make them unattractive to many people. Thankfully, there is a better option. With laser treatment, individuals can say goodbye to their unwanted hair so they can feel more confident.

DIY Approaches Are Not Effective

Laser Hair Removal is one of the most effective ways to remove hair from the face and body. While there are many other ways people attempt to get rid of unwanted hair, not all of them are effective, and some can be painful. Plucking uses tweezers to pull the hair root from the follicle. This pulling action causes immediate pain and can sometimes lead to inflammation of the follicle.

There is also the option of shaving. Shaving is effective, but it leaves stubble that can lead to ingrown hairs. These can be painful and embarrassing. Shaving only gets rid of the hair temporarily. Within a day, or even a few hours, the hair starts to grow again.

Individuals also have the option of waxing. Waxing is much the same as plucking but involves ripping many hairs out of their follicles at once. A person spreads warm wax on the area and then covers it with a strip of material. The material is pulled against the growth of hair, removing the hair from the follicle.

What to Expect From Laser Treatment

Laser removal is safe for most people but can cause some minor skin irritation and discomfort. It is imperative individuals choose a qualified and highly trained technician to perform their hair removal services.

This procedure will need to be carried out more than once. Some people need a few sessions while their hair slowly starts coming back thinner and thinner. Other people need regular sessions every few weeks.

Hair removal treatments do not work well on dark skin. They work best on individuals that have light skin and dark hair. Those who have gotten a tan will likely need to allow their tan to fade before having hair removal services carried out because the treatment may not be as effective.

Laser treatments do not cause any major pain. The day before the appointment, individuals will need to shave the treatment area. First, a cooling gel is applied to the skin, and then the technician will use the handheld laser device. Although this treatment does not cause major pain, it can feel like a rubber band being snapped against a person’s skin.

Laser Treatments Are Safe

Individuals do not need to worry about any bad side effects from having these laser treatments carried out. It is normal for the treated area to be a little red and irritated after treatment. Some people get a minor raised red rash in the area that was treated. Applying an ice pack to the area can relieve discomfort quickly

Unwanted hair can be embarrassing for many people. If you are tired of shaving, painful plucking, and waxing, laser treatments are an option. With the laser, individuals can say goodbye to unwanted hair for weeks, or even months, at a time. With each session, the hair will grow back finer and lighter.
