Keeping the Spark Alive in a Long-Distance Relationship

You never know when or where you’ll fall in love. It can happen at the most unexpected times in the most unexpected places. Sometimes, that means that you’ll fall in love with someone, and the circumstances, such as the distance, won’t be ideal. Long-distance relationships can be hard, but they also can be beautiful. Follow this long-distance relationship advice to keep the magic alive and the love forever blooming.

Make Time for Each Other Whenever Possible

Just like a traditional relationship where you see someone whenever possible, you need to adhere to the same rules when in a long-distance relationship. Just because there are miles between the two of you, it doesn’t give you a free pass to straight-up ignore your significant other. Although you can’t see each other physically, there are plenty of different ways in which you can spend time together.

  • Talk on the phone
  • Send photographs of your day
  • Have a video chat before bed
  • Respond to messages promptly

Doing all of these things will ensure your partner that you’re thinking of them each and every day. The longer you go without communicating, the more stress can build up in a relationship. That’s because doubts can creep in and a person can get frustrated when they don’t hear from their loved one.

Have Dates Over Skype, FaceTime

Just because you’re not next to each other physically doesn’t mean that you can’t go on dates. There are quite a few super cute virtual dates that you guys can have even though you’re far apart. It’s something celebrities do all the time! If both of you purchase a board game, you can take turns playing over video chat. If there’s a movie you both want to see, watch it at the same time over video chat and then have a discussion afterward. Virtual dates can still have that magic. You can see your significant other’s excited expression, have face-to-face conversations with them, and speak openly about your feelings while looking them in the eye. The only thing missing is that physical touch, but that just makes it all the more special when you get to hold each other again.

Create Sentimental Care Packages

Care packages are a great way to let your significant other know that you’re thinking of them. If you can’t see them for special occasions and holidays, send them something to show that you’re thinking of them. It doesn’t have to be big and extravagant; it just has to come from the heart. You can include the following things to make it unique:

  • Mementos from previous dates such as movie tickets
  • Photographs of your time spent together
  • Stuffed animals
  • A dozen fake red roses

Don’t Underestimate the Power of Small gestures

Sometimes, our loved ones just want to know that we’re thinking of them. A simple way to do that is by writing them a letter. Letters can act as treasured mementos that they can relive for years to come. If you’re sad and miss them, write it down. If you came up with a poem that expresses your love, send it to them. If you’re musically inclined, you can record a song for them. All of these are inexpensive, heartfelt, and easy ways to show your love.
