Combating Work Travel Burnout

Traveling during the holidays is not for the faint of heart, especially when you have to work as well. With all of the things that you have to do, it is understandable to worry about burnout, especially where travel is concerned. Consider the following suggestions on combating extra holiday work travel burnout.

Replace Extra Water and Nutrients Accordingly

With all of the traveling that you do for work, your body’s water and nutrient supplies are drained at a much faster rate than most people would experience, as you are always on the move, therefore always requiring more to keep you going. If you have the opportunity to get extra water and nutrients, take full advantage of it, and try to keep up with your needs so you do not collapse at the end of the day or the end of the week. Smoothies are especially helpful when you are traveling because you can replace vital nutrients without having to take the time to cook or pack a ton of supplements to take with you.

Hit the Gym When You Can

While it is understandable to not be able to take the time to stop and do something, you might want to consider hitting a gym every once in a while, especially if you are staying somewhere that has a gym nearby or in the same building. Exercise gives you endorphins and helps you stay energized, and there are so many different ways to exercise, so you can always switch to something different if you get bored with your current regimen. For instance, if a regular workout routine does not sound attractive to you, you can try a fitness class that features something such as yoga or Zumba. Make Time to Unplug

You are constantly on the move and you know that is not good for your system. It is vital to your physical and mental health that you take the time to unplug. This means not focusing on work for a set amount of time and instead taking that allotted time to decompress and do something that you enjoy. To ease into it, try to take ten to fifteen minutes of time to unplug, then gradually increase as needed, if you have the time to increase. You are not being lazy just by taking a few minutes to recharge, so there is no reason to feel guilty about it.

Get As Much Sleep As You Can

Another thing that is not good for your system is neglecting to get the proper amount of sleep. While the right amount of sleep for you may not be the same as the right amount of sleep for the average person due to the nature of your job and how your body has adjusted accordingly, you still need to get the sleep that you need to perform properly. 

Working and traveling during the holidays is not easy, but there is no reason to neglect your needs for the sake of your job. Keep this article in mind and do not be afraid to try one of these suggestions to get ahead of any potential burnout this holiday season.
