Bluffing Your Way in Ballet at Edinburgh Fringe – an irreverent and witty journey through the history of ballet from Seizing the Day

A unique company of professional dancers and actors – Seizing the Day – brings its Bristol sell out show, Bluffing Your Way in Ballet to the Edinburgh Fringe this year. The show pirouettes its fast-paced and humorous way through the intrigue, tragedy, and magical history of ballet which will appeal to everyone, regardless of their level of interest (or not) in dance.

The unstoppable diva that is the lead ballerina in the show and founder of Seizing the Day company – Alexandra Pickford – once danced with The Royal Ballet and English National Ballet and with some of the galaxy of famous stars brought to life in the show. Bluffing Your Way in Ballet will portray some ballet greats including the flamboyant Louis 14th, who helped create ballet’s 5 positions of the feet, the fated Isadora Duncan, the incredibly athletic Václav Nijinsky, perfect partners Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev, Darcy Bussell, made even more famous by TV’s Strictly and many more.  Alexandra is delighted to share the gossip and reality of her own experiences with you, including some spicy backstage stories!

Alexandra, now in her dotage, but still an incredible and athletic dancer, is very excited to be dancing and acting alongside 2 virile young men!  They will be part of the ensemble that will bring to life the truly incredible history of ballet. People of all ages and backgrounds have loved this production so don’t miss this humorous and entertaining Show.

Says Alexandra; I founded Seizing the Day company in 2022 as a way of ensuring that mature and younger professional dancers and actors kept their talent alive and proving that all ages, when theatre jobs are scarce, could still provide exciting entertainment and share their experiences. Our work is so far proving very popular!  Bluffing Your Way in Ballet is our 2nd production, the other being Snapshots, which is another funny and uplifting performance.’

Bluffing Your Way in Ballet will be on at The Space @ Venue 45 at 3.05pm.  Tickets will be on sale in April Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023 | Coming soon (edfringe.com)

 Biography:

Alexandra Pickford: is the founder of Seizing the Day dance company which she set up in 2022. Her aim was to create more chances to perform.  She describes herself as a Sugar Mummy to Seizing the Day, being childless and dedicated to her art! The company includes people from 29 upwards, although mainly mature performers. She also aims to attract more actors and dancers from diverse backgrounds.  She invited interested parties to a Workshop and one of the exercises became Snapshots, the company’s first well received production. Then inspiration struck again, and Alexandra wished to tell the history of ballet in an irreverent and witty way and how it influenced her long dance career with The Royal Ballet and internationally.  She dragged a reluctant company who hadn’t heard of the ballet stars, kicking, and screaming with her. They got there and she’s so proud of the company who performed Bluffing Your Way in Ballet to sell out audiences in Bristol. Edinburgh, here we come.
