Ageing and personal development

As my body begins to deteriorate, my mind feels sharper and more together than ever. My exterior is degenerating and my interior feels solid and well rounded, so to speak. What a paradox. As I have aged, I feel more confident, less bothered by what others think and definitely march to the tune of my own drum far more than ever before. I don’t enjoy dealing with my ageing bod though – pain in my feet, digestive issues, firmness is on the slide and I don’t have the same amounts of energy as before…sigh.

Perhaps it is nature’s way of forcing us to take stock of our lives. Instead of being able to rush about in a mindless frenzy where we don’t really give much consideration we are forced to slow down. We are made to slow down by our bodies and this helps us to decide whether we are actually even enjoying all this rushing about we are doing.

Keeping the mind active no matter what age you are is the key to ageing well. The brain is just like any other muscle and needs stimulating. I know myself better now than I ever have and although I am a work in progress, I am enjoying where all this self discovery is taking me.

Read lots, question yourself and your motives regularly, take stock of where the energy flow is going in your life – that is, what brings you positive energy enabling you to feel well and fulfilled (more of that please!) and what brings you negative energy, draining you? Get rid of this or at least limit it as much as possible.

Getting older has its own challenges but I am doing my best to embrace it all – the good bits and the bad bits. Those bits I can’t embrace might just need extra foundation or concealer…
