Do you ever feel like your world is caving in on you? Like no matter how hard you try, there’s always something else to do, emotionally charged situations that need attention, or people who are pushing boundaries? It can be difficult to keep your composure when life gets tough. Everyone has days where they just don’t want to deal with anything else, and those days are often the most necessary.

Here are seven healthy coping strategies to help you maintain your sanity!

1) Meditation

Meditation is one of the most powerful activities that has been discovered for stress relief. It also helps with focus, memory, creativity, social awareness, empathy, and more! There are tons of great resources for how to meditate and a ton of great apps as well. Don’t just think it’s something you can try once and master – there is always room for improvement!

2) Exercise

We all know that exercise is amazing for your body. And while it might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you are looking for coping strategies, it should be! Physical activity releases endorphins which are natural painkillers and antidepressants. You’ll instantly feel better about your day after a quick workout.

3) Sleep

Sometimes you just need to sleep everything off. And that’s perfectly ok! Be sure to take care of yourself by getting enough sleep every night. If you find yourself having difficulty sleeping, try turning off electronics an hour before bed. They emit blue light, which can keep your brain alert and active rather than relaxed for sleep.

4) Try New Things

When you are feeling stressed out or overwhelmed, it could be because you are just in a rut! Break out of that by trying something new! New experiences definitely fall into the category of coping strategies because they are so important for happiness. Is there something you’ve wanted to do? Go get it done!

5) Spend Time With Loved Ones

The last coping strategy is probably the most popular one – spending time with loved ones! The people in our lives are what give us happiness, fulfillment, and meaning. Don’t be afraid to tell them you need a little extra TLC in your life! You deserve it.

6) Vices In Moderation

Vices are a little different than the coping strategies above, but they can help! When we’re stressed and overwhelmed, some of us look for an escape to “unwind” after a long day. That release is what makes it healthy – just don’t overdo it! Remember that vices such as drinking or smoking or disposable vapes carry risks and should be taken in moderation.

7) Don’t Be Afraid To Cry

It can be scary to realize you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed out, but it’s important to remember that it is ok! It doesn’t make you weak; it makes you human. Don’t feel ashamed for crying when your emotions get the best of you – just embrace it. It’s always therapeutic to just let the tears flow.

In Closing

The most important thing to remember with coping strategies is that you are not alone! Remember that these five coping strategies are not meant to replace any of the care you get from professional treatment. If you are still struggling, please make an appointment to talk with your doctor. We hope these coping strategies help you in your day-to-day life!
