5 Tips for Glowing Skin and a Better Complexion

Almost everyone wishes to have blemish-free, smooth, and glowing skin for the rest of their lives. Although the natural aging process is inevitable, it’s still possible to delay the process and a rock smooth, youthful skin for longer. Here are the top 5 tips for glowing skin.

1. Protect It from The Sun

Always wear sunscreen whenever heading out in summer or when the sun feels too hot. Leaving your skin exposed to the sun increases the risk of UV-ray exposure, which can damage your skin cells and possibly cause cancer.

Although you may not notice its effects at first, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight causes age spots, wrinkles, flaky and dry skin, among other skin conditions. You can, however, protect your skin from the sun by:

Applying sunscreen: Look for, and use sunscreen with at least 15 SPF whenever heading out, and remember to apply an extra layer after every two hours if too exposed.

Stay in a shaded area: Always seek shelter between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when sun rays are strongest if outdoors.

Wear protective clothing:  Make a habit of wearing clothes that cover much of your skin when it’s sunny outside. Long pants, tightly woven long-sleeve shirts, and wide-brimmed hats will help protect the skin from direct sun rays.

Consider using laundry additives known to add an extra layer of UV protection to your clothes whenever doing laundry. You could also go for clothes designed to block UV rays as well.

2. Quit Smoking

Smoking is not only bad for your lungs but also damages your skin as well. Cigarette smoke contains toxic compounds, which, when exposed to skin cells, cause blood vessels (capillaries) close to the skin to shrink and narrow.

This reduces blood flow to the topmost part of the skin, leaving your skin pale and wrinkled. The reduced blood supply also means the said skin cells aren’t replenished with oxygen and nutrients either.

Smoking, according to research, damages elastin and collagen in the skin. These are the natural fibers that give your skin its elasticity and strength. This impacts your skin’s elasticity and structure, paving the way for stretch marks and wrinkles.

The only best way to protect your skin from this is to quit smoking altogether. Talk to your doctor to help you quit smoking.

3. Be Gentle with It

Although you might not notice it, cleansing and shaving every day is taxing to your skin. You thus want to be gentle with it to maintain its softness and glow. You can do this by:

Limiting your bath time: Long showers and hot water rob the skin of its natural and essential oils. Consider having shorter baths with cold or warm water, not too hot.

Avoid strong soaps: Some detergents and soaps are too strong for the skin. These wash oils off the skin, hence not recommended. Stick to mild soaps instead.

Be careful while shaving: Always apply shaving cream, gel, or lotion before shaving. This helps lubricate the skin, allowing the razor to glide instead of scratch the skin.

Pat dry: Never rub your towel against the skin, but rather blot or pat dry after bathing or washing. Doing so allows some moisture to remain on the skin.

Apply a moisturizer: Consider applying a moisturizer with some SPF if you have dry skin. This will help keep it moisturized for longer. Perhaps utilise a cream like this from this Irish company

4. Focus On a Healthy Diet Plan

Eating healthy is one of the pillars and secrets to beautiful and young-looking skin. That said, you want to focus on healthy eating habits to provide the body and skin with all the essential nutrients needed for healthy growth.

Increase your intake of fresh vegetables, fruits, lean meats, and whole grains for the best results. Make a habit of drinking plenty of fresh water to help keep the skin well hydrated too.

5. Learn To Manage Stress

Stress and youthful, glowing skin don’t go together. Stress can trigger several skin problems, including Acne, a reason you want to keep it in check. Setting realistic goals, getting enough sleep, engaging in social activities, and scaling back are some of the ways you can manage stress for better health and beautiful, full, and smooth skin.
