1- Deep Breathing
Now you’ve definitely heard of this one before, but hear me out! It’s not just a way to relieve stress, it’s a way to improve your overall mental state.
The practice of deep breathing (or diaphragmatic breathing, for you science-y people) has been shown to reduce stress levels and subsequently stress-related consequences (such as high blood pressure) and improve cognitive functions. (Source: National Center for Biotechnology Information)
Needless to say, the benefits are awesome!
But the downside is, you’ve got to do it consistently, turning it into a happy habit. To do this, I’ve compiled simple instructions (this is a quote from the instructions in my free report, which you can download here!).
Give it a shot now:
- Sit or lie flat in a comfortable position.
- Put one hand on your belly just below your ribs and the other hand on your chest.
- Take a deep breath in through your nose and let your belly push your hand out. Your chest should not move.
- Breathe out through pursed lips as if you were whistling. Feel the hand on your belly go in and use it to push all the air out.
- Do this breathing 5 to 10 times, taking your time with each breath.
- Notice how you feel at the end of the exercise.
In order to turn it into a habit, I would recommend following those instructions every morning, before even getting out of bed. You would be surprised at the difference it can make!
2- Getting Up Consistently
This is something overlooked by so many people, and frankly, I can totally see why.
I mean… Who actually wants to get up early on a saturday, or on a lazy sunday?
Well, the answer might surprise you… Successful people do.
It’s clear that waking up early, at the same time every day (weekends included!) leads to a happier life, here’s why…
When you wake up in the morning consistently, you’ve suddenly added extra time to your day, as if through magic. The truth is, as human beings, we’re much more productive during the morning than the evening. Having time in the morning allows you to complete your morning routines, be productive and set yourself up for an overall fulfilling day.
This really can’t be understated, I know it’s hard, but it’s worth it.
If you’re wondering at what time I would recommend getting up, anything before 8AM will typically give you enough time to have a great, productive day!
Although, it’s kind of fun to note that the most successful among us (I’m talking about the multi millionaires and billionaires…) typically wake up at completely inhuman hours like 4 or 5 in the morning… Nevertheless, it’s important to get enough sleep! Don’t settle for less than 7 or 8 hours every night. It’s better to go to bed early and wake up early than go to bed late and wake up early or late!
3- Keeping a Journal
Yeah, this one’s a little odd, I know.
But hear me out!
You might be surprised at how effective of a method this is…
Keep in mind that the journal doesn’t have to be about any one, specific thing. For instance, in one of my journals, I write down ideas! Completely random ideas about completely random things.
Sometimes I write about my character flaws and how to improve myself for both myself and the people around me.
Other times, I write goals and achievements that I want to reach throughout my life.
The point is, write, write and write! It doesn’t matter what comes to mind, just write your thoughts daily.
Here are a few tips you can do to make this a habit:
- Always keep a journal next to your bed, you’ll be grateful when you suddenly wake up with the greatest, life-changing idea you’ve ever had!
- Write down your goals often, and reread them often. This will help you attract success and happiness to your life.
- Write informally, it’s not an essay, it’s your thoughts. You’re writing to yourself here.
It’s no secret that distractions are exceptionally common in our daily lives. Without a doubt, businesses compete for our attention.
But the truth is, it wasn’t always this way. As a human being, you can build up the mental fortitude to keep total and absolute focus on whatever your current task is.
Just imagine your life if you didn’t procrastinate, ever.
The easiest, and in my opinion the most efficient way of improving your focus is to meditate every day.
It doesn’t have to be hard!
Here’s a process I’ve outlined to make it easier to turn this into a happy habit:
- Sit or lay down comfortably
- Close your eyes
- Take deep breaths
- Consciously focus on your breaths
- Continue for 10 to 15 minutes every morning
You can also have some relaxing music or binaural beats playing.
Alternatively, guided meditation can also be great!
5- Spending Time with Loved Ones
Alright, I’ll admit it… It’s a little cliché.
But it’s so unbelievably important to spend time with those that matter to you that I had to include it.
I would even dare say that it’s probably the most important point on this list.
Humans are social animals, we’re engineered to live with others, and we need social interaction, in other words, we need love.
So spend time with those that matter! It’s literally biologically necessary.
Cherish your relationships everyday, spend time with those that really matter to you.
So to top off our happy habits, dedicate time every day to those you love, even if you’re in a bad mood, make a conscious effort, you’ll see how greatly it’ll improve your life!
