The trouble with today’s modern world is that it’s all too easy for people to put themselves low on their priorities lists. As a result, their mental and physical health takes a toll, and sadly there are times when things get really bad for some folks.

Detoxing your body and mind is a series of processes that will help you put yourself high up on your priority list. They are actions that will help purify how you eat and drink, how you think about yourself and the world around you, and how to keep negative energy at bay.

Take a look at the following examples to give you some inspiration:

1. Drink Plenty Of Water

Water is undoubtedly an essential liquid, and without it, there would be no life on Earth. The sad truth is that many people aren’t drinking enough water in their days. As a result, they will feel dehydrated, lethargic, and even hungry.

There is much debate on how much water is enough to drink each day. The truth is, everyone has different body shapes and sizes, and some people need to drink more water than others.

The simple answer to the question of “how much water should I drink” is simple: you drink it whenever you feel thirsty.

2. Try Natural Remedies Before Medicine

It’s no secret that advances in modern medicine have meant there are fewer people that have to experience pain or ailments so much, and people are generally leading longer, healthier lives.

However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for natural remedies. Sometimes, it can make more sense to try natural remedies first before opting for medicine from pharmacies or prescriptions from local GPs.

3. Eat More Fruit And Vegetables

Unfortunately, many people generally aren’t eating enough fruit and vegetables each day, and so they experience the symptoms of vitamin, mineral and nutrient deficiencies in their bodies.

4. Eat Healthier Versions Of Your Favourite Foods

You probably like eating certain foods that most medical professionals will probably tell you isn’t good for you, and it’s a fact that no one can deny. The thing is, you don’t have to give up eating those foods in the pursuit of maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Instead, what you can do is simply eat healthier versions of those foods. For example, you could purchase lean meat or perhaps foods that are low in fat. You’ll still enjoy the same great tastes; they’ll just be better for your body.

5. Buy Organic Produce Where Possible

You may not realise it, but much of the fruit and vegetables you buy in supermarkets today may have been sprayed with artificial pesticides and may even contain GMOs and artificial additives.

As you can appreciate, you don’t really want such “unknown extras” to get consumed by you and your family. That’s why when you purchase organic produce, you can be sure that nothing artificial has been sprayed or applied to the foods you eat.

The only downside to buying organic food is that it generally costs a bit more than the standard alternatives. Still, you could always grow some fruit and vegetables in your garden for free organic food!

6. Turn Off Technology When You’re Eating

Have you ever noticed that when you’re watching TV or using your smartphone while you eat, you don’t feel full even though you’ve probably had a large plate of food? The reason is that you’re not concentrating on your food.

In some ways, you may not even notice that you’ve eaten your meal, and when you look down at an empty plate, you start to think about having second helpings or getting something else to eat as well.

Always turn off the technology during mealtimes. Doing so ensures you can focus on what you’re eating and enjoying your company if you’re dining with other people.

7. Avoid Toxic People

One thing that can really lower your mood and make you feel bad about yourself is when you hang out with toxic people. What exactly is a toxic person, you might be asking yourself? In a nutshell, toxic people are individuals that are mostly negative about everything.

They seldom have anything positive to say and rarely appear optimistic about stuff. Their negativity will spread to you, and soon you’ll have the same negative mindset that they do. That’s why it makes sense to avoid being around such people.

8. Spend Less Time Watching TV

When most people come home from a long day at work or perhaps doing a myriad of chores, one thing they look forward to is spending time in front of their TVs and watching their favourite programmes or movies.

But, it’s not a healthy pastime. If you spend less time watching TV, you’ll find other and better ways of relaxing. Examples include reading books, telling stories to your young children if you have any, and listening to music.

9. Schedule Time For Social Media

Are you someone that spends much of their days and nights scrolling through their social media feeds on their smartphones? If that’s the case, you would be better off limiting your time on social media and scheduling browsing sessions each day.

Why is that important? The answer is simple: social media can take up too much time in your life when it can be better spent doing something more fun or productive. What’s more, scheduling time for social media means you won’t experience the fear of missing out.

10. Make Exercise Fun

Part of leading a healthy lifestyle involves incorporating some regular exercise. It could be something as simple as going for a walk in your neighbourhood each day, or it might translate as spending several hours in your local gym each week.

If you have too vigorous a workout routine, it can feel more like a chore instead of something you actually want to do. That’s why you should take steps to ensure that your daily exercise routine is fun.

For example, you could do your workouts in different venues or locations each day, or you could include your friends and relatives for some group exercise activities.

11. Go To Bed Early

It’s essential that you have plenty of sleep each night. Your body needs to have several hours of uninterrupted sleep to purge itself of toxins and rest your brain so that you’re mentally prepared for the next day’s proceedings.

The thing is, some people try to pack so much into their days and evenings that they rarely consider how such acts can impact their bodies. You should get around seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night for optimal results.

If you go to bed early each night, you will give your body time to prepare for relaxing and getting into the mood for sleeping. Just remember to avoid using any technology before you sleep, as blue light from screens will negatively impact your body’s sleep-wake cycle.

12. Immerse Yourself In Music

There’s no denying that music is the one thing that everyone has in common. Sure, people have different tastes in music. However, all people can agree that they have certain bands or singers that they love hearing.

The great thing about music is that it helps transport your mind to somewhere away from your present reality. If you immerse yourself in music during times of trouble, it can give you some light relief from what you’re dealing with.

Consider lying down somewhere quiet and listening to your favourite songs or tracks, either with the speakers turned up on your hi-fi system or by plugging in your earphones into your smartphone and listening to music digitally.

13. Don’t Eat Processed Foods

The issue with processed food is that it usually contains all kinds of chemicals and questionable ingredients.

Processed food such as cheese isn’t good for you, even if the manufacturers claim otherwise. Stick to consuming non-processed foods and ensure that what you eat is healthy.

14. Limit Yourself To One Treat A Day

Last but not least, it’s never a good idea to go “cold turkey” on treats because the chances of being unable to resist temptation are too great. Instead, what you should do is have tight control over the treats you eat and ensure you do so on your terms.

For example, limiting yourself to just one treat a day means you can still enjoy things that aren’t necessarily good for you. But you can do so in moderation.
