12 Rules for life

The ultimate goal of every person is to live a meaningful life. No one wants to become insignificant in this world. Each of us aims to achieve pure bliss or happiness. Unfortunately, this is not an easy thing to do since there are distractions everywhere. Sometimes, you find yourself in a compromising situation that prevents you from moving forward. Well, now is not the time to feel sad about this because you can still do something to change this situation.

In Jordan Peterson’s book, 12 Rules for Life, he reminded everyone of the importance of living life to the fullest. According to him, these are the top twelve rules that you must keep in mind if you want to achieve your life’s purpose:

Stand up straight with your shoulders back. Learn how to maintain a good posture wherever you go. This will provide you with a sense of authority. At the same time, it can also increase your confidence levels making you feel more relaxed whenever you are in a public place.

Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping. Always put yourself as a top priority. Consider yourself as a person whom you want to provide help and assistance at all times. Never let anyone or anything bring you down.

Make friends with people who want the best for you. Cliched as it may sound but it is true that your friends can influence your thoughts and actions. As such, it is best to be around people whom you can trust. These persons must not hurt you in any way or be a bad influence for you. Make an effort to determine who are the type of friends that you want to surround yourself with.

Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today. Focus on improving yourself by assessing your past self in comparison with your present self. Never make a mistake of comparing yourself with others because it will do you no good at all.

Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them. As a parent, you have to inspire your children to grow as a responsible member of the society. Help them do the right things at all times.

Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world. Always make an effort to organize all the affairs at home before you invest your time with other people or things. Keep in mind that a healthy home can inspire members of the family to remain intact and happy together.

Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient). Take some time to think clearly about the goals that you want to accomplish. Do not forget that the most important criteria of all pertains to the meaningfulness of the objective. Always pursue what you think will help you achieve a meaningful life.

Tell the truth – or, at least, don’t lie. Telling lies can bring chaos into your life. As such, be sure always to tell the truth. What you need to remember at this point is the reality that the truth will always set you free.

Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you. Let go of your “know-it-all” attitude. Accept the fact that there are many people out there who are more knowledgeable than you do. By accepting this, you will begin to maintain harmonious relationships with others.

Be precise in your speech. Think before you open your mouth. If you are unsure of what you are going to say, the best option is to keep your mouth shut. Verify your facts before sharing it with the people around you.

Do not bother children when they are skateboarding. Give children a chance to be happy. This is one of the best things that you can do for the young ones in your life. Do not be the type of person who may be labeled as someone who kills joy.

Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street. Make it a habit to be kind to everyone around you, and even to pets. Spread happiness by being a nice person wherever you go.
